Hot temperatures and rising humidity as an early heat wave continues across Texas will lead to high heat indices Friday, May 16. This has led to the National Weather Service-Austin/San Antonio issuing a heat advisory for Friday, May 16.
Air temperatures of 96 to 107 degrees will lead to heat indices of 106 to 110 degrees.
The advisory affects portions of the Rio Grande, I-35 corridor, and Coastal Plains areas and is in place Friday from 2-7 p.m.
The National Weather Service urges caution, especially for those spending any time outside.
Heat illness is possible.
Those in the advisory area are urged to:
- Take frequent rest breaks in the shade or air conditioning
- Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty
- Check on elderly neighbors or family, and other vulnerable individuals
- Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
Above-normal temperatures and elevated heat indices also are forecast over the weekend.
