Two suspects are in custody and one remains at large after St. Hedwig city marshals responded to a burglary in process on March 20.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. that day, deputies responded to a 911 call from a neighbor in the 12800 block of Adkins-St. Hedwig Road for a suspicious white pickup truck at the residence. Sgt. Damian Balderas and Deputy Patrick Akers arrived to find three suspects at the scene — two male and one female — Durk Meyer, 48, of St. Hedwig; and Shanay Weston, 34, and Roy Hernandez, 38, both of San Antonio, according to reports.

Officers located Meyer and Weston inside the home, after noticing signs of forced entry; Hernandez was behind the home. A 2004 Ford F-150 was loaded with appliances and metal objects, allegedly taken from the residence.

As the deputies questioned the individuals, the suspects seemed nervous and their stories were not adding up, according to St. Hedwig Lt. Steve Barloco. Hernandez then fled on foot, after giving a false identity. Balderas pursued him, while Akers maintained control of the other two individuals.

A perimeter was created with assistance from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the China Grove Police Department to attempt to locate the fleeing suspect, and drones were also deployed in the search. However, after several hours Hernandez had not been apprehended, partially due to the high concentration of brush and vegetation in the area.

Meyer and Weston were charged with burglary. Weston also allegedly was found to be in possession of a felony-weight amount of narcotics. She was charged with possession of between

4 and 200 grams of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1, possession of less than 28 grams of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 3, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.

The vehicle was seized. After Hernandez was positively identified, warrants for his arrest were issued for burglary, giving a false identification to a police officer, and evading arrest or detention. The case is still under investigation.

“I have no reason to doubt that this was not their first offense,” Lt. Barloco said. He added that this case was a positive step for the department in potentially solving other recent property theft crimes.

Anyone with information regarding Hernandez’s whereabouts is being asked to call local law enforcement.
